Introduction

Pioneers UK and AWM-Pioneers were two well-established missionary organisations working towards the same goal: reaching unreached communities with less than 2% Christians in ethnolinguistic groups. As they planned their merger, the challenge was to create a unified brand strategy that respected each organisation’s distinct history while fostering unity, clarity, and collaboration.

The Challenge

There was a core need to maintain the trust and engagement of existing supporters, especially those with strong ties to AWM’s focus on the Arab world. Additionally, the organisation needed to merge operational and brand systems without diluting either organisation’s identity. Another key need as to encourage collaboration and trust among the merging leadership and teams who had historically operated independently.

The Solution

To address these challenges, Kerf facilitated a comprehensive brand strategy process built around collaboration, clarity, and adaptability. This included:

  • Two Phased Workshops:The first focused on engaging a broad team, including leadership, to explore shared values, vision, and purpose.
    The second brought together senior leaders to refine strategic goals and ensure alignment across both organisations.
  • Brand Personality Definition: Using the Brand Personality Pyramid, Euan guided the teams to define shared values and beliefs, behavioural traits, tone of voice, and visual identity elements. This established a foundation for consistent and unified communications.
  • Strategic Documentation: The final deliverable was a comprehensive Brand Strategy Roadmap, including:
    Vision, mission, and purpose statements that honoured the distinct histories of both organisations.
    A clear set of organisational goals for the first year, three years, and the ultimate future.
    Tools to support transitional communication strategies.

The Impact

The strategy not only supported a smoother transition during the merger but also set Pioneers UK & Ireland up for long-term success. By aligning their internal culture and external messaging, the organisation was able to strengthen relationships with supporters, retain its focus on the Arab world, and build a foundation for sustainable growth.
